[Event Report] Animation Basics Course Kicks Off in Kochi!

On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the first session of "NAKAWARI: Animation Basics Course" was held in Kochi Prefecture.
This course is conducted as part of the "Kochi Prefecture Animation Project," a joint industry-academia-government-finance initiative led by Kochi Prefecture and local financial institutions. It aims to establish a specialized animation education environment and train support staff for future animation education in the prefecture.

The venue was filled with enthusiastic students eager to learn animation techniques, alongside future support staff.

Part 1: In-Betweening (Nakawari) Guidance & Demo
Using professional tools like lightboxes, the instructor demonstrated how to draw with gravity and air resistance in mind, showing the impact of "tap in-betweening."

Part 2: Support Staff Training
Focusing on creative literacy theory, participants discussed the instructional intent behind assignments and shared concrete approaches for supporting students.

With the in-person session complete, students are now starting their independent online study and assignments. The secretariat and support staff are fully ready to back up their passion. The next in-person session is scheduled for December.

• Young local creators.
• Individuals looking to support future animation education in Kochi.

Requirements

• Able to attend all in-person (Kochi) and online sessions (Past sessions can be completed via archived videos).
• Access to a PC or tablet for viewing video materials.
• Bring your own basic drawing tools (pencils, erasers, etc.).
  Note: Lightboxes and animation taps are available for a rental fee.
• If there are too many applicants, a drawing will be held.
